CALCULATED METHOD

What is the calculated method?

This method uses the GFIC nutrient database to convert your product formula into an Nutrition Fact Table.

  • Requires amount of each ingredient by weight, description of process and yield information (e.g. moisture loss)

The process

  1. Convert recipe from household measures (e.g. cups, tablespoon) to weight (e.g. grams, kilograms)

  2. Download and fill-out the formula submission form

  3. Send the formula sheet to gfic@uoguelph.ca

  4. Food product undergoes calculated analysis

  5. Obtain calculated analysis results in ~ 4 business days

What is included in analytical testing?

  • Calories

  • Sodium

  • Potassium

  • Protein

  • Calcium

  • Iron

  • Total Fat as Tryglycerides

  • Saturated Fatty Acids

  • Trans Fatty Acids

  • Carbohydrates

  • Total Dietary Fibre

  • Cholesterol

 

Food products not suited for the calculated method

  • Products that experience significant chemical or physical changes during the manufacturing process.

  • Products you intend to make a Canadian food claim about.
